Chapter 8

The immediate fallout of the confrontation rippled through the bright, sun-drenched courtyard like a shockwave. As Dante turned his back on Javier, the suffocating tension that had gripped the white American guests finally began to fracture. Whispers erupted among the capos and their wives, their fair faces exchanging nervous, wide-eyed glances. They had witnessed the absolute physical and psychological dismantling of a senior family member, a stark reminder of the brutal hierarchy that governed their opulent lives.

Clara, trembling uncontrollably, scrambled across the grass in her high heels. She fell to her knees beside her husband, her elegant summer outfit gathering dirt.

"Javier, get up," Clara hissed desperately, grabbing his arm and pulling him. "Get up right now before you make it worse. We need to leave."

Javier didn't argue. Stripped of all his arrogant bravado, he allowed his wife to haul him to his feet. He kept his eyes averted, staring at his scuffed casual shoes, utterly humiliated as the bodyguards watched him with cold, professional disdain. Clara supported his weight as they practically ran toward the heavy wrought-iron gates of the estate, desperate to escape the wrath they had provoked.

Dante ignored their frantic retreat. His polished leather shoes carried him directly to the two bodyguards shielding his children. At his approach, the massive men in dark suits immediately parted, stepping aside respectfully.

"Dad!" Leo cried out.

The ten-year-old boy ran forward, throwing his arms around Dante’s waist. Mia followed a second later, wrapping her small arms around Dante’s leg, burying her face into his tailored trousers.

The terrifying, cold-blooded Mafia Boss vanished instantly. The deeply masculine, unyielding aura softened, replaced entirely by the warm, fiercely protective presence of a father. Dante dropped to one knee on the manicured lawn, disregarding his expensive suit completely. He gathered both of his children into his powerful, heavily tattooed arms, pulling them flush against his chest.

"I've got you," Dante murmured, his raspy voice thick with genuine emotion. He pressed a kiss to the top of Mia’s head, then rested his hand on the back of Leo’s neck. "You are safe. No one will ever touch you again. I swear it on my life."

"He pushed my face in the dirt, Dad," Leo sniffled, his rosy cheeks stained with tears and grass. "I couldn't breathe."

"I know, Leo. I know," Dante said softly, his jaw clenching as a fresh wave of homicidal anger flared in his chest, though he kept his tone incredibly soothing for his son. "But you were brave. You didn't give up. And Mia, you were a fierce little lioness trying to help your brother. I am so proud of both of you."

Mia looked up, wiping her blue eyes. "Are you going to send Uncle Javier away forever?"

"Uncle Javier," Dante stated, his voice turning cold for just a fraction of a second, "is no longer welcome in our home. Come on. Let's go inside and get you both cleaned up."

Dante stood up effortlessly, lifting Mia into his left arm while keeping his right hand resting securely on Leo’s shoulder. He turned toward the massive glass doors of the main house. As he walked, his sharp, intimidating eyes swept over the remaining guests. The message was clear: the barbecue was over, and the time for reckoning had arrived.
