Chapter 7

The atmosphere in the sun-drenched courtyard was thick with an unbearable tension. Dante Romano held his cousin pinned to the earth for one more agonizing moment, ensuring the utter humiliation and powerlessness were permanently burned into Javier’s memory. The bright video colors of the scene—the rich green grass, the dark tailored suits—created a stark, high-definition portrait of absolute dominance.

Without a word, Dante suddenly released his crushing grip on Javier’s twisted wrist.

He stood up in one fluid, powerful motion, lifting his heavy knee from Javier's spine. As Javier gasped in relief and frantically tried to push himself up onto his hands and knees, Dante did not simply step away.

With a brutal, dismissive display of deeply masculine strength, Dante placed his polished leather shoe against Javier’s shoulder and forcefully pushed him away across the grass.

The forceful shove sent Javier tumbling awkwardly backward. He scrambled desperately in the dirt, crawling backward on his hands and feet like a frightened animal. His fitted polo shirt was stained green and brown, his fair skin scratched, and his previously slick hair was a disheveled mess. He finally stopped a few feet away, panting heavily, staring up at the towering figure of the Mafia Boss.

Dante stepped forward, maintaining a rigid, impenetrable stance between the cowering man and the two bodyguards shielding Leo and Mia. He adjusted the cuffs of his dress shirt, the elegant tattoos on his wrists flexing with the movement.

He looked down at Javier, his cold, sharp eyes completely devoid of any familial warmth or mercy.

"You wanted... to teach my son... strength," Dante said.

His voice was quiet, raspy, and lethal. He spoke slowly, with those terrifying, controlled pauses, keeping his volume so low that the silence of the courtyard felt deafening. Every sentence sounded measured, cold, and profoundly dangerous.

"You believed... your size gave you the right... to put him in the dirt," Dante continued, taking one slow, deliberate step closer. "But you forgot... the fundamental rule... of this family."

Javier’s face became a mask of pure, paralyzing fright. The color drained entirely from his rosy cheeks, leaving him looking sickly and pale. He scrambled backward another inch, entirely broken by the sheer, intimidating presence of his younger cousin.

"Remember," Dante whispered, the single word cutting through the warm summer air like a razor. He tilted his head slightly, his gaze piercing straight through to Javier's soul. "Who taught you fear."

The words hung in the bright, cinematic light, an absolute, undeniable declaration of supremacy. Javier swallowed hard, his throat clicking audibly in the quiet space. He looked into Dante’s eyes and saw the monster that had built an empire on blood and ruthlessness. He realized, with a sickening drop in his stomach, that his life had been spared only by a razor-thin margin of grace.

"I remember, Boss," Javier choked out, his American accent trembling violently. "I remember. I swear to God."

Dante stared at him for a long, heavy second, ensuring the lesson had taken permanent root. He then turned his back on the broken man on the grass, a gesture of ultimate, terrifying dismissal, and walked slowly toward his children.
