Chapter 1

The blizzard howled against the expansive glass windows of the luxurious estate, a blinding vortex of white against the dead of night. Inside, the cinematic lighting of the grand foyer cast a warm, natural glow, completely devoid of any harsh yellow tint. The pristine white marble floors gleamed under crystal chandeliers, creating a picture of absolute wealth and security. But the heavy oak front doors had just been kicked open, letting the brutal winter wind tear through the entrance.
Winston rushed through the open door, his deep, rich mahogany skin contrasting sharply with the freezing white snow swirling around his broad shoulders. At seventy years old, he possessed the handsome look of old age, exuding the terrifying air of a powerful, untouchable figure. He wore a heavy charcoal wool winter coat over a black cashmere turtleneck, tailored dark trousers, and sturdy leather winter boots. But it was what he carried in his arms that brought a terrifying, explosive silence to the room.
He was carrying his three-year-old grandson, Trey. The adorable boy, blessed with glowing warm brown skin, was completely unresponsive, his lips tinted a dangerous shade of blue. He was wearing nothing but a thin, ripped pajama shirt, thin cotton pants, and he was completely barefoot. Snow was still clinging stubbornly to the little boy’s face and hair, his tiny body trembling violently against Winston’s chest.
Standing in the center of the foyer, completely unbothered by the cold, was Eleanor. Her fair, rosy skin was flawless, highlighted by diamond earrings that caught the chandelier’s light. She wore a luxurious velvet winter wrap dress and sharp stiletto heels, holding a half-empty wineglass with relaxed elegance. Behind her stood Preston, her husband and Trey’s father, dressed impeccably in an expensive cable-knit cashmere sweater, dark chinos, and suede loafers.
"You left my grandson barefoot outside for nine hours?" Winston roared, his voice an explosive boom of protective rage that seemed to shake the very foundations of the house.
Eleanor did not flinch. Instead, she took a slow sip of her red wine. She pointed toward the freezing, trembling child with extreme, unmistakable contempt, while Preston completely avoided his own son’s eyes, staring at the marble floor.
"This is my house, and he follows my rules," Eleanor stated, her voice dripping with cold, mocking superiority.
Trey weakly clutched the lapel of Winston’s heavy charcoal coat. He was shaking so violently his teeth chattered, but he managed to turn his head to look past his grandfather's arm, staring directly at the man in the cashmere sweater.
"Dad…" Trey whimpered, sobbing and hiccuping through his freezing tears. "You knew I was out there."
Preston flinched. He finally looked at Trey, then shifted his gaze to Winston, crossing his arms in a visibly defensive, pathetic posture.
"That was only a mild punishment," Preston muttered, his voice laced with irritated cowardice. "He broke one of Eleanor's vases. He needed to learn respect."
Winston slowly turned his gaze away from Preston and locked his eyes onto Eleanor. The explosive, roaring fury in the older man’s face suddenly vanished, shifting into a terrifying, dead calm. He gently shifted Trey’s weight to his left arm. Then, without a single word of warning, Winston raised his right hand and delivered a thunderous, devastating slap across Eleanor’s face.

The impact sounded like a gunshot. The wineglass shattered. Eleanor was sent crashing hard to the marble floor, her stilettos slipping out from under her.
"Your house?" Winston asked, his voice now an icy, lethal authority. "Eleanor, you have no idea whose house you are in."
