Chapter 1

The crystal chandeliers of the Bellacorte mountain estate cast a bright, luminous glow over the private birthday reception. It was a scene painted in vivid, cinematic colors: the rich crimson of velvet drapery, the gleaming gold of champagne flutes, and the pristine, polished white marble of the floor. The heated lounge hummed with the polite, measured conversations of wealthy guests, all possessing the fair, rosy complexions of the city’s elite. Laughter floated through the warm, meticulously illuminated room, completely disconnected from the cruel reality unfolding just inches beyond the floor-to-ceiling glass doors.

Outside, the Colorado winter was unforgiving. The snowy terrace was a vast expanse of freezing white, illuminated only by the warm light spilling from the lounge.

Three-year-old Lily Bellacorte stood shivering violently on the frost-covered stone. She wore torn, filthy clothes that offered no protection against the biting wind. Her tiny feet were completely barefoot, the skin turning a painful, flushed pink against the ice. In her trembling, rosy hands, she clutched a crumpled piece of paper—a hand-drawn birthday picture, colored with whatever broken crayons she had managed to find in the dark corners of the estate.

Through the heavy glass, Claudia Bellacorte stared down at the child. Claudia was flawless in her elegant winter gown, her diamond jewelry catching the bright light, her fair skin glowing with a pampered, rosy warmth. Her lips were curled into a vicious, mocking smile.

Suddenly, Claudia pushed the glass door open just enough to reach her manicured hand into the freezing air. She snatched the drawing from Lily’s hands with a violent jerk.

"Hey! Give it back!" Lily cried out, her small voice immediately swallowed by the howling wind. "It's for Grandpa!"

Claudia examined the crude drawing of a man and a little girl, her smile widening into a mask of pure disgust. With a flick of her wrist, she threw the paper backward into the deep snow.

"Who gave you permission to bring trash to the party?" Claudia laughed, her American accent dripping with absolute contempt.

Standing right beside her was Mark Bellacorte, Lily’s own father. Dressed in an expensive, thick cashmere sweater and tailored trousers, he looked every bit the polished heir to the Bellacorte empire. He glanced down at his shivering daughter, his face devoid of any paternal warmth.

"You heard your mother," Mark snapped, his voice sharp and impatient. "You stay out there until you learn how to behave. I won't have you embarrassing me in front of the capos."

Without another word, Mark grabbed the heavy brass handle and pulled the glass door shut, locking it right in the little girl's terrified, tear-streaked face.

Inside the dark, adjoining corridor, hidden entirely from the bright lights of the party, Richard Bellacorte stood perfectly still. The veteran Mafia boss wore a tailored dark three-piece suit, an immaculate dress shirt, and a heavy cashmere overcoat. His cold, intimidating eyes absorbed the entire scene. He watched the woman who had married his son, and he watched the son who shared his blood, condemn an innocent child to the freezing snow. And slowly, an explosive, lethal rage began to boil in his veins.
