Chapter 2

The sheer violence of Bianca’s actions sent a shockwave through the gathered Mafia elites. The clinking of crystal glasses ceased entirely. The polite conversation was severed as if by a guillotine.
Across the room, standing near the grand fireplace, Bastian Coletti watched the scene unfold. At thirty-seven, Serena’s husband was a handsome, ambitious man in a tailored suit, a luxury watch gleaming on his wrist. But he did not move to help his pregnant wife on the floor. Instead, he stood perfectly still, his hand resting comfortably on the lower back of another woman.
Faye Mercer, twenty-six years old and radiantly beautiful in an elegant satin dress, stood beside Bastian. Her fair, rosy skin flushed slightly under the sudden attention of the room. She was also pregnant, resting one hand delicately over a small, visible baby bump.
Alaric Montesi had been seated at the head of the table the entire time. He did not yell. He did not jump up in a frantic panic. The veteran Mafia boss slowly, deliberately pushed his chair back. He rose to his full, towering height, a monument of terrifying, lethal control.
He walked around the corner of the heavy mahogany table. His polished leather shoes made no sound against the carpet. He reached his daughter and gently, with a tenderness that completely contradicted the monster he was known to be, helped Serena back to her feet.
"Are you harmed, Serena?" Alaric asked, his deep voice barely a whisper, yet it resonated with an impending, catastrophic violence.
"Dad…" Serena sobbed, leaning heavily against his tailored three-piece suit. She was shaking violently, her eyes darting across the room to where her husband stood with the other woman. "Dad… Bastian says she’s carrying his son. He says my baby is a girl, and he needs a male heir to lead the family."
The words hung in the bright, cinematic air, a toxic, horrifying confession of absolute betrayal.
Bastian had not just taken a mistress; he had brought her into the Don’s home. He had allowed his mother to assault the Don's pregnant daughter to claim a seat of power. It was a coup disguised as a domestic dispute, a calculated insult designed to break Serena’s spirit and assert the Coletti bloodline over the Montesi empire.
Bastian, misreading Alaric’s silence for shock, calmly took Faye’s hand. He led the young, pregnant woman across the dining room, walking with the arrogant swagger of a man who believed he had just outmaneuvered a king. He steered Faye directly toward Serena’s empty, ornate chair beside the head of the table.
Before Faye could even brush the fabric of the upholstery, Alaric stepped directly into Bastian’s path.

There was no dialogue. The silence in the room was absolute, a heavy, suffocating vacuum waiting for the explosion.
Alaric stared at Bastian. His cold, sharp, intimidating eyes bored into the younger man's soul, stripping away the tailored suit and the luxury watch, exposing the pathetic, greedy coward underneath.
